We do many control and machine build projects, but our favorite projects are motion related, actively sensing and reacting to process conditions.
These projects are a sample of the hundreds of project done by our team.
TestingFatigue Testing – Retainer Clip
Life-cycle torsional load testing at 840 touches per minute to validate a purchased component before release to production.
Machine Design & BuildAutomatic Tapping Machine
Custom machine and controls for high-load anchoring nuts, with motor-current monitoring to flag tap wear automatically.
TestingDestructive Test Stand – Automobile Seat
Pull-test rig measuring force-to-failure on seat structures against the required safety threshold.
Motion ControlPrecision Servo “Flying Cutoff”
Encoder-synchronized cutoff saw that tracks moving material and cuts while in motion then returns to the starting position.
Motion ControlLevel Layer Winding – Aluminum Welding Wire
Precision spool winding at up to 2,300 ft/min, with exact wire placement calculated for every spool and wire diameter.
PC SoftwareAluminum Anodizing
PC based custom software prioritizes racks of aluminum part through process tanks, rinse tanks, coordinating 4 hoists,
Fatigue Testing - Retainer Clip

This Life Cycle Test applies oscillating torsional load in both directions at 840 touches per minute. Each touch is at a specified torque value. Hundreds of thousands of cycles repeat until the part fails.

If this simple retainer clip fails the product will stop operating. Kane assisted our customer to secure confidence that this purchased component would outlast the life of the full product.
This test was performed on a sampling of the retaining clips before release to the production.
Machine Design & Build - Automatic Tapping

Custom machine and controls for high-load anchoring nuts used in wind and civil applications. Fully automated load, tap, and unload process.
Kane Engineering designed and built this machine for our customer.
There are millions of these engineered nuts are used on everything from Wind Towers to dams and bridges. The amperage of the tapping motor is monitored. When the tap gets dull, the machine alerts the technician that it is time to change the tap.
Destructive Test Stand - Automobile Seat

Pull-test results for the automobile seat structure, measuring force-to-failure against the required safety threshold
FLYING CUT-OFF
Extruded Material - Moving Saw
Stamped Material into Spiral wound
Oil Filter "Core"
Up stream, a measuring wheel encoder capture the movement of the extruded material. The cut-off saw carriage moves with the material while the circular saw cuts to the required length.
Material is stamped then pushed into a spiral shaped die then cut to length with this synchronized disk cut-off wheel.
Level Layer Winding - Aluminum Welding Wire
Aluminum welding wire is wound on spools at speeds up to 2300 feet per minute. The location of the wire is precisely pre-calculated and positioned through a cam profile for the entire wound spool.
Kane Engineering designed a method to calculate the exact position for every millimeter of wire on every combination of spool and wire diameter.

Anodizing Hoist System PC Software
The coordination of 4 hoists and many processes are dynamically controlled with recipe based software.
Kane Engineering designed software to prioritize process tanks over rinse tanks, taking into account the time required to reach the target tank. While avoiding collision with the other hoists.
